The little railway – our little railway – in the Devon countryside that closed in 1935 left a mark on so many people’s lives.
Whether as a visitor to the lovingly restored Woody Bay, or as an enthusiast who wishes they could have seen it before it closed, we all share the dream that one day it can be rebuilt.
The Barnstaple and Yeo Valley Railway Trust exists with the sole purpose of making the restoration of tracks and trains from Barnstaple up through the valley of the lovely River Yeo happen. Our particular focus is on the southern end of the old line, from Barnstaple, via Chelfham and Bratton Fleming, to Wistlandpound and Blackmoor Gate.
We have been quietly buying up sections of trackbed. We are making a real impact on the huge task of putting back the railway in the Yeo Valley. We have track to lay, bridges to rebuild, land to buy and, in the not-too-distant future, a railway to operate.
That Great Pilton Yard in the Sky
However much we love the L&B through the Yeo Valley, however much we want to see L&B trains carrying people along ‘our’ trackbed, we know that none of us will live forever. With that in mind, and if you appreciate the effort that is being put into making our collective dream a reality, please think about making Barnstaple and Yeo Valley Railway Trust a gift in your will and leaving us a legacy – in your name and in recognition of
what you hope for in the long term.
It was a legacy from an admirer of the railway which allowed us to buy six sections of trackbed in twelve months, and start the first proper track laying at Snapper Halt – a truly generous admirer.
Imagine What Your Legacy Could Achieve
Legacy is more than what you leave behind; it is what lives on after you.
Your legacy should live on…
If you would like to make contact and talk to someone, we have good people who can discuss this on a personal
level with you.
In the first instance, please email Mike Buse at legacies@byvrt.org.uk or give him a call.
Your email or call will be treated in private and in confidence.
